Privacy notice

This is a personal website. It is built to collect as little data as possible: there are no cookies, no advertising, no profiling and no embedded third-party content. Fonts, images and scripts are served from this website itself. Visits are counted anonymously, as described below.

Who is responsible

Frank Scherer — reachable at mail [at] schererfrank.de.

Server log files

When you visit this website, the web server of the hosting provider, ALL-INKL.COM – Neue Medien Münnich (Germany), automatically processes technical data that your browser sends: IP address, date and time of the request, the requested page, referrer URL, browser type and operating system. This is necessary to deliver the website and keep it secure (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The data is not combined with other data sources and is deleted by the hosting provider after a short period.

Visitor statistics

To see which pages are read, each page view is counted with GoatCounter, an open-source statistics service (goatcounter.com). Your browser sends the address and title of the page, the referring page and your screen size to GoatCounter; as with any web request, your IP address and browser type are transmitted too. GoatCounter sets no cookies, does not keep your IP address or browser details, and stores only aggregated counts. It cannot be used to identify you or follow you across websites. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in understanding how this website is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

No visit is counted if your browser sends a “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control” signal.

Theme preference

If you use the theme switch, your choice (light or dark) is saved in your browser’s local storage so it’s remembered on your next visit. Nothing is stored unless you use the switch. The setting never leaves your device, and you can remove it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for this website.

Contacting me

If you use the contact form, your name, email address and message are sent by email to me through the mail server of the hosting provider. If you write to me by email directly, the same applies to your address and message. I use them only to reply to you (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR), do not share them with anyone, and delete them when the conversation is over unless I have to keep them for legal reasons.

To protect the form against spam, the server keeps a counter of recent submissions for an hour. It is stored under a one-way hash of your IP address, not the address itself, and deleted automatically afterwards.

External links

This website links to LinkedIn and GitHub. No data is sent to these services until you click a link; from then on, their own privacy policies apply.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and to object to processing of your personal data. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
